The Green Briar Park Garden club and Parkways Foundation have partnered to create an anniversary garden celebrating 80 years of service to our neighborhood. If you are not familiar with the park located at 2650 West Peterson, it serves our community residents with a number of athletic and unique recreational activities, ranging from a weekly drum circle to jewelry making. The historic field house also features a gymnasium on the first floor and an auditorium on the second floor, which is available for rental for private events and parties. In 2009, the Green Briar Park Garden Club installed cedar flower boxes at the entry the field house and filled them with seasonal blooms. The club has also been instrumental in other beatification and education projects and has the support of the Chicago Park district. In order for us to bring the anniversary garden to life, we are asking residents to adopt a plant for a small donation of $15.00 or a shrub for $25.00. All donations are tax deductible. Cash or check donations will be accepted as follows: Mail Check donations to: The Green Briar Park Garden Club looks forward to your generous donations that will help make our park a better place for all in our community to enjoy! You can make an immediate difference in your neighborhood by volunteering your time and effort to take part in Mayor Daley’s Spring Clean & Green Day. For two decades Chicagoan’s like you have teamed up with the City of Chicago to help beautify communities by cleaning up and recycling accumulated litter & trash. It’s easy and fun for the whole family; simply join your neighbors and help clean yards, alleys and curbs by starting with your own. If you need brooms, rakes, shovels or bags to help get the job done, the city will provide them. Call 311 and let them know you want to be part of the “Clean and Green” and need supplies. Take a few hours to meet and work with your neighbors to help clean where you live.
We will try to answer questions and share the latest information. Perhaps you already know that the zoo is in a state of decline. If you are concerned, please come and find out what is happening and what we can do about it. Hope to see you there! Jennifer Albom
